80 Grade Scouting Notes: Tampa Catholic Scout Day
The 80 Grade Scouting staff headed up to Tampa Catholic to run our Scout Day package for their fall program. The talent pool was deep with a number of players in each class that shined, but especially the 2027 group. Coach Paul Russo and his staff have done a tremendous job as they’ve clearly put a focus on player development with their fall program.
2027 UTIL/RHP Ty Fraga put together one of the top performances on the day. Fraga was near the top of every metric measured. Fraga’s frame, athleticism, and skill should make him an intriguing 2-way prospect. At the plate his plus athleticism and bat speed make him a versatile threat. On the mound, Fraga displays a quick arm that could see a velocity spike as he continues to add physicality and strength.
2029 IF/OF Audi Harper was one of the top young players on the day. With impressive footwork in both the OF and IF paired with excellent arm strength, Harper can play just about anywhere on the field. In addition to his defensive versatility, Harper has a unique skillset offensively as the young switch hitters utilizes a short, simple operation at the plate with a quick barrel through the zone.
2026 1B Jayden Mera brought a big, physical presence in the batter’s box and put on an impressive display during both of his BP rounds. Mera produced consistent mid-upper 80s exit velos with nearly every swing. Mera’s athleticism is impressive given his size as he displayed solid footwork around the bag at 1B and moved well during the 60.
Another standout 2-way player was 2027 IF/RHP Oscar Cambero. Cambero has a projectable, athletic build and showcased athletic actions in all aspects of his game. Defensively, Cambero showcased reliable hands, good footwork, and good arm strength across the diamond. At the plate, Cambero used a wide stance and was able to lift the ball consistently driving the ball up the middle of the field into both gaps.
2027 OF Brayden Beauchaine was one of the more impressive athletes at the Tampa Catholic Scout Day as he impressed right away with a 140.2 grip strength and a 6.75 60. His strength and athleticism translate well onto the field as he impressed in the OF with his angles and put together two impressive BP rounds.
Another one of the impressive 2027 players for Tampa Catholic was C/IF Kyle Sutherland. Sutherland impressed with his standout defensive abilities with a 1.94 C Pop and 77mph C velo. His catch and throw ability was very solid.
2028 OF Giovani Jimenez had himself an impressive day at the Tampa Catholic Scout Day. With an impressive 6.85 60, Jimenez athleticism translates well on the field for the young outfielder.
2027 IF/RHP Finn Fluker is an intriguing follow to see how he continues to develop as he showcased good feel on the mound, at the plate, and in the infield. Fluker has a lean, athletic build with room to add physicality. At the plate he starts with his hands low and finishes with good extension using a flat bat path direct to the ball. On the mound showcased a solid 3 pitch mix with above average spin rate numbers
2027 RHP Chanz Scanio put together one of our favorite bullpens on the day. Scanio is undersized and doesn’t have the velocity to blow you away. However, when you see the movement and control he generates on all 3 pitches you see why he gets results on the mound. The sidearmer had some eye popping spin numbers as his slider (2372-2440) was sharp & tight, yet his changeup (1042-1102) just disappeared with late movement.
